Charles Field-Marsham, Chairman and Founder of Kestrel:
Charles founded Kestrel Capital in 1995 and has been involved in financial advisory and corporate restructuring work in Kenya since 1993. Charles also has investments in several other companies in East Africa. Charles worked previously in the Corporate Finance Department of Credit Suisse First Boston, an international investment bank, in New York and London. Andre DeSimone, Executive Director: Andre was Chief Executive of Kestrel Capital in 1995 and played a pivotal role in developing the research tradition now associated with the firm. Prior to this, Andre worked for Blackstone Group L.P. in New York as Vice President specialising in acquisitions and restructuring. Between 1997 and 2001, Andre was a portfolio manager at Zurich Scudder Investments in New York where he co-managed a Global Emerging Markets Equity Fund. From 2001 to 2003, Andre was at Kenol/Kobil Petroleum where he was responsible for new acquisitions and oversight of subsidiaries outside Kenya. Andre has returned to Kestrel Capital as Executive Director. He holds a BSc in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Andrew Mwangangi, Head of Operations and Fixed Income Sales: Andrew joined Kestrel Capital in 1995. Andrew is in charge of the operations department and leads the fixed income sales efforts, as well as the bond trading and commercial paper programs. Andrew holds a BA in Economics and Higher Diploma in Management Information Systems.

Samuel Wachira, Head of Sales and Trading: Samuel joined Kestrel Capital in 1997. At Kestrel Capital, Samuel is responsible for the day to day execution of orders at the trading floor, for establishing working relationships with investors, and for ensuring smooth co-operation between the back office and the trading desk. He has a BA in Economics from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at the same institution.

Abraham Too, Operations and Fixed Income Sales: Abraham joined Kestrel Capital in 1996. Abraham is responsible for back office operations queries and ensures the firm’s compliance with regulations and assists in bond trading and commercial paper programs. Abraham is a CPA (K).

Christine Kuria, Sales and Trading: Christine joined Kestrel Capital in 2004 having spent the prior seven years at Dry Associates where she gained extensive experience in structuring and selling fixed income products such as Commercial Paper and other corporate papers, as well as dealing in Treasury Bonds, foreign exchange and foreign mutual funds in Kenya. She has a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of Nairobi.

Vera Mungai, Sales and Trading: Vera joined Kestrel 2006 having spent several years at Jubilee Insurance. At Jubilee, Vera was responsible for managing the Uniflex life insurance product, pricing and risk analysis, among other responsibilities. Vera has a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK and is currently pursuing her Actuarial exams.

Joseph Thiga, Equity Sales & Trading/Operations: Joseph joined Kestrel Capital in 2004. Joseph handles the equity orders and liaises with trading department to ensure clients’ instructions are executed and reported as appropriate, establishing working relationships with investors, and ensuring smooth co-operation between the back office and the trading desk. Joseph holds a Bsc in Mathematics from Moi University and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at University Of Nairobi.

Snehal Shah, Head of Research: Ms. Shah joined Kestrel in 2006 from African Alliance where she was a research analyst. She now oversees the research function encompassing equities and fixed income instruments and has over 4 years experience in sell side research and currently covers the banking and technology sectors. Snehal has an MSc Financial Mathematics from CASS Business School, City University, London, as well as a BSc Business Mathematics and Statistics from the London School of Economics.

Masinde Wycliffe, Research Analyst: Masinde joined Kestrel in 2007 and deals with market research for the industrial/manufacturing and media sectors in addition to assisting with corporate advisory work. He previously worked at The Steadman Group (now Synovate) as a data analyst. He holds a Bsc in Applied Statistics (Actuarial Science) from Maseno University and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at the University of Nairobi.

Gregory Waweru, Research Analyst: Gregory recently joined the research team at Kestrel Capital and took responsibility for the Kenya Weekly Commentary in addition to ad hoc research. Gregory has a Bsc (Hons) Actuarial Science degree from the University of Nairobi and a higher diploma in Management of Information Systems (IMIS). He is currently pursuing his actuarial qualification.
