Charles Field-Marsham, Chairman and Founder of Kestrel:
Charles founded Kestrel Capital in 1995 and has been involved in financial advisory and corporate restructuring work in Kenya since 1993. Charles also has investments in several other companies in East Africa. Charles worked previously in the Corporate Finance Department of Credit Suisse First Boston, an international investment bank, in New York and London. Andre DeSimone, Executive Director: Andre was Chief Executive of Kestrel Capital in 1995 and played a pivotal role in developing the research tradition now associated with the firm. Prior to this, Andre worked for Blackstone Group L.P. in New York as Vice President specialising in acquisitions and restructuring. Between 1997 and 2001, Andre was a portfolio manager at Zurich Scudder Investments in New York where he co-managed a Global Emerging Markets Equity Fund. From 2001 to 2003, Andre was at Kenol/Kobil Petroleum where he was responsible for new acquisitions and oversight of subsidiaries outside Kenya. Andre has returned to Kestrel Capital as Executive Director. He holds a BSc in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Andrew Mwangangi, Head of Fixed Income Sales & Trading: Andrew joined Kestrel Capital in 1995. Andrew is in charge of the operations department and leads the fixed income sales efforts, as well as the bond trading and commercial paper programs. Andrew holds a BA in Economics and Higher Diploma in Management Information Systems.

Samuel Wachira, Head of Equity Sales & Trading: Samuel joined Kestrel Capital in 1997. At Kestrel Capital, Samuel is responsible for the day to day execution of orders at the trading floor, for establishing working relationships with investors, and for ensuring smooth co-operation between the back office and the trading desk. He has a BA in Economics from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at the same institution.

Abraham Too, Head of Operations: Abraham joined Kestrel Capital in 1996. Abraham is responsible for back office operations queries and ensures the firm’s compliance with regulations and assists in bond trading and commercial paper programs. Abraham is a CPA (K).

Christine Kuria, Equity Sales and Trading: Christine joined Kestrel Capital in 2004 having spent the prior seven years at Dry Associates where she gained extensive experience in structuring and selling fixed income products such as Commercial Paper and other corporate papers, as well as dealing in Treasury Bonds, foreign exchange and foreign mutual funds in Kenya. She has a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of Nairobi.

Vera Mungai, Equity Sales and Trading: Vera joined Kestrel 2006 having spent several years at Jubilee Insurance. At Jubilee, Vera was responsible for managing the Uniflex life insurance product, pricing and risk analysis, among other responsibilities. Vera has a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK and is currently pursuing her Actuarial exams.

Joseph Thiga, Equity Sales & Trading/Operations: Joseph joined Kestrel Capital in 2004. Joseph handles the equity orders and liaises with trading department to ensure clients’ instructions are executed and reported as appropriate, establishing working relationships with investors, and ensuring smooth co-operation between the back office and the trading desk. Joseph holds a Bsc in Mathematics from Moi University and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at University Of Nairobi.

Vimal Parmar, Head of Research: Vimal recently joined Kestrel Capital from African Alliance where he worked as an Investment Analyst. He has Bachelor of Business Information Technology (Hons) degree from Strathmore University and is currently a Level III candidate in the CFA® Program. Vimal has four years experience in equity and fixed income research. His primary focus is equity research. He has in the past specialized in Banking, Telecommunications, Mortgage, IT, Tobacco and Transport sectors and now oversees the development of all research products produced by the research team at Kestrel Capital. He covers Banking and Cement stocks.

Masinde Wycliffe, Research Analyst: Wycliffe joined Kestrel in 2007 having worked previously at the Steadman Group (now Synovate) as a Data Analyst. He is currently a research analyst responsible for the Kenya Weekly Commentary while also covering Breweries, Tobacco and Sugar sectors. He also handles foreign investor relations and corporate advisory. He has a BSc in Applied Statistics (Actuarial Science) from Maseno University and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at the University of Nairobi.

Gregory Waweru, Research Analyst: Gregory joined Kestrel in 2008, having graduated from the University of Nairobi with a BSc in Actuarial Science (Hons) and a Higher Diploma in Applied Business Computing from Strathmore University. He is currently pursuing the Institute of Actuaries professional examinations. Gregory Waweru has two years experience in equity research. His primary focus is on Banking, ICT and Oil sectors. He is also involved in corporate advisory work.

Sally Kotut, Research Analyst: Sally recently joined Kestrel from African Alliance where she worked as a Portfolio Manager. Sally holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree majoring in Accounts from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton and has passed Level I of the CFA® Program. Sally has a client relations background and discretionary portfolio management. She is involved in equity research and client relations. Sally primarily covers Media and Tourism stocks.

Suki Muia, Research Analyst: Suki recently joined the research team at Kestrel Capital from CFC Life Insurance where she worked as a claims analyst. Suki has a Bsc Actuarial Science (Hons) degree from the University of Nairobi and has passed Level I of the CFA® Program. Suki Muia recently joined the research team at Kestrel Capital and handles the Kenya Weekly Commentary. Suki is also taking additional responsibility for covering Insurance and Utility sectors.
